SUMMARY: Foolish choice
OVERVIEW: The Lord shepherds Israel to ensure proper care. However, because Israel doesn’t want to follow God as their shepherd, God allows a wicked shepherd to lead them.
BIG IDEA: Be careful whom you follow.
KEY VERSE: Zechariah 11:16 (God to Zechariah)
This illustrates how I will give this nation a shepherd who will not care for those who are dying, nor look after the young, nor heal the injured, nor feed the healthy. Instead, this shepherd will eat the meat of the fattest sheep and tear off their hooves.
IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I have given you free will. You get to choose whom you will follow. But count the cost. Evaluate how you make decisions and from where your influence comes. There are plenty of voices vying for your attention. You have numerous options showcasing their features. But ask the tough questions. Find out how long they’ve known you and cared for you. Investigate their track record. Who have they recently provided for, and how is that person today? What about those they led five years ago?
You will not find anyone or anything who knows you and cares for you as I do. I am all you will ever need. I created you, I have great plans for your future, and I will help you get there. I am reliable, trustworthy, and all-powerful. When I make a promise, I not only keep it but have the power to accomplish the task. I know you and love you. The choice is yours, and I invite you to follow me today.
NEXT STEP
Be careful what you wish for. God’s leadership is what you need in your life. Seek him and allow him to lead you, rather than following the desires of your heart. Reflect today how your “following” is going. Are you following God, or have you been distracted?
