Revelation 17

Revelation 17. Drunken reality

Revelation 17:1-18

SUMMARYDrunken destruction

OVERVIEWBabylon, the great prostitute, representing all centers of power and influence that have turned people from God, is drunk on the blood of God’s people, destined to be destroyed.

BIG IDEAThe power of sin is limited. God will destroy it.

KEY VERSERevelation 17:14 (Angel to John)
Together they will go to war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will defeat them because he is Lord of all lords and King of all kings. And his called and chosen and faithful ones will be with him.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Sin flaunts its power. It boasts of its beauty and ability to satisfy any and every thirst. It knows what you hunger for and meets you where you are. It holds your hand, enticing you to take the first step. It cheers you on, encouraging you to take a bold leap of faith. It satisfies your fears and comforts you with words you want to hear. Everything about sin appears acceptable. But it is a lie.

Sin destroys. It corrupts and makes you addicted to its cravings,  convincing you nothing else will provide. You feed your flesh and believe false and corruptible lies. Let me give you ears to hear the truth and eyes to see me and my creation. Let me give you the power to turn from sin and walk with me. I am eternal, and I will destroy sin. Don’t be fooled by its glitter and glam. Be moved by my Spirit, be forgiven by my Son, and be healed by my love. I want to be your reality. I want to be the truth you consume. Surrender to me and follow me today.

NEXT STEP
Don’t give in to the apparent—and short-lived—benefit of sin. It is costly, and its end is ugly. Repent. Turn away from sin and towards God. Let God know you want to follow him and need his strength. Ask a friend to pray for you every day for one week.
