Psalm 42

Psalm 42:1-11

SUMMARYSoul thirst

OVERVIEWA reminder to choose God and trust God even when life is difficult.

BIG IDEAWhen you feel down or depressed, continue to look up.

KEY VERSEPsalm 42:1 (David’s prayer)
As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I care for you and I love you. I made you and will always be there for you. That is what is true. Those are the reminders you need in your head and heart. I love David’s imagery of thirsting and hungering for me. That’s good instruction. As your stomach grumbles for food, think of me. As you work hard and begin to thirst, think of me. I am the only one who brings true sustenance—comfort, hope, courage and love as you live and as you serve others. Your mind and body need food, but don’t neglect your soul.

There will be times when you feel down. There may be times you struggle with depression. Even then, nothing has changed. You may not feel good but I am still with you. My love and purpose for your life are strong and always will be. I am with you and await your renewed hunger and thirst for me.

NEXT STEP
Choose to praise God, regardless of your circumstances. Make a note on your phone and identify one thing you are thankful for, even if you are struggling. Remind yourself throughout the day, that God is good and you are blessed. Add to your “thankful” list as thoughts come to mind.
