Psalm 140

Psalm 140:1-13

SUMMARYGo offensive

OVERVIEWDavid seeks protection from violent evildoers and goes on the offensive.

BIG IDEAPray for God to deal with your enemies.

KEY VERSEPsalm 140:4
O Lord, keep me out of the hands of the wicked. Protect me from those who are violent, for they are plotting against me.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I hear your prayers and see the traps people have set before you. I know the evil in your enemies’ hearts and what they seek to do. That’s why you must look to me and follow me. I want to navigate you safely from point to point. There may be times I allow you to feel the sting of pain, but keep seeking me. I can’t promise to keep you from harm, but I promise to always be with you. I will keep you safe. I will not let you face more than you can bear.

Instead of only “protect me” prayers, pray for the defeat of your enemies. But pray for their salvation, too. Pray they would wake up and recognize their evil ways and that they will surrender their lives to me. I do not want you harmed, and I do not want them to be forgotten. There is always hope for one who has gone astray. But if they continue in their wicked ways, I will bring judgment.

NEXT STEP
Pray against your enemies and their plans, but pray for God to bring judgement and pray for your enemies to choose God’s way. Pray that you will trust God’s plan and rest in his protection.
