Proverbs 22

Proverbs 22:1-29

SUMMARY: Character

OVERVIEWGrowing and developing our character is critical.

BIG IDEAGod is the creator of the rich and poor, so our best investment is to follow God.

KEY VERSEProverbs 22:1
Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I have given you gifts and abilities for your pleasure and my glory. Serve me with joy, and you’ll find fulfillment. When you develop your gifts, you can make an impact that has eternal value. But when practicing or working hard, never forfeit your character. You may acquire all the skills in the world, but without character, it will never satisfy. Your reputation matters and impacts how others think of me. I love you and will faithfully provide for you, but I want you to pursue me and care for others more than you focus on yourself.

So pay attention to what I say and follow me where I lead. I want to connect you with others who can coach and encourage you, and I will introduce you to some in whom I want you to invest. Don’t fall for negative peer pressure. Be the one who influences others towards love and good deeds. Show them what faithfulness looks like.

NEXT STEP
Do you have any goals that require you to forfeit your character? Talk with God and some friends about any changes you need to make. Write one goal for the week that will be an investment in your character.
