Proverbs 16

Proverbs 16:1-33

SUMMARY: God guides

OVERVIEWProverbs that contrast a life of faith with God and one without.

BIG IDEAKeep your heart soft and open to God. It’s good to have plans, but ultimately the Lord’s will is done.

KEY VERSE: Proverb 16:9
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I love guiding and directing your life. I am committed to doing that for you, but I want you to seek me and my will. I long for you to pay attention—for your own good. Apart from me or wise counsel from others who love you, you are prone to go astray. Your intentions and passion may be commendable, but your motives and ideas always seem right to you. You need a filter. Bring those thoughts and ideas to me. Let me establish your plans. Let me work out everything in your life. I can even turn pain and evil into good.

Seek me. Turn to me. I also want you to trust friends and family who love you. Turn to them for support. I’ve designed you to be in community. Trust their instructions or concerns. Your plan will always seem correct to you—but in the long run, it may produce pain. Let me guide you. Slow down and look to me and wait for my instructions.

NEXT STEP
Seek God’s will. Are you beginning to identify areas where God is working? Take a step (or leap) of faith and jump in. Is anything holding you back? Talk with friends and seek their counsel.
