Proverbs 13:1-25

SUMMARY: Wise living

OVERVIEWA description of how a wise person lives and, thus, becomes wise.

BIG IDEAWise people seek wise people.

KEY VERSEProverb 13:20
Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Are you satisfied? I provide all that you need. Who is in your inner circle? If you want to become wise, walk with the wise. Your friends matter as do the choices you make together and the words you share. Are you teachable? You will receive honor when you submit to authority and are willing to be corrected. A wise son or daughter listens to a parent’s instruction. Don’t think your way is always right. Even when it is, pride and arrogance will separate you from others.

Remember, you don’t have to impress others to be loved and admired. I give you worth and value. I already think highly of you, so trust me in how you live. And be wise in how you live. Watch what you say—guard those lips. Let me act as a filter, not only preventing you from saying unwise words but transforming those words, so they bring life and love. Look at me and let me guide where you go and what you do.

NEXT STEP
Evaluate your friendships and your willingness to learn. Are you teachable? Are you surrounding yourself with healthy people? Are there any changes you need to make in your friendships? Are there friends you should thank?
