Proverbs 12:1-28

SUMMARYLying lips

OVERVIEWRighteous living brings blessing, while deceit produces trouble.

BIG IDEAFools only hear what they want to hear.

KEY VERSEProverbs 12:19
Truthful words stand the test of time, but lies are soon exposed.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Lying lips disgust me. I already know the truth, so don’t pretend to be someone you’re not. People accept those who are humble. And you may be able to deceive some people for a little while, but that charade has a short life span and enormous consequences. I take joy when you are trustworthy and reliable. When you confess your sins and own your mistakes to others, it promotes peace and produces joy. There is so much more fulfillment in telling the truth.

Not only do your words matter, but your actions do, too. Be a hard worker and pursue an honest living. The food from an honest day’s work is sweet and will sustain you. A paycheck built on deception won’t go as far. A rich person who gains her wealth dishonestly might have a nice car, but she won’t enjoy her ride to work nearly as much as the truth-teller walking to work. Be a friend and spouse of character. One who acts disgracefully spreads hidden mold throughout their house.

NEXT STEP
Be a truth-teller. It gives life and brings hope. Be honest in all your interactions today.
