Numbers 4

Numbers 4:1-49

SUMMARYBe alert

OVERVIEW: The name of each member of the Levitical families—the Kohathites, Gershonites, Merarites—were recorded, and their duties delineated. The priests packed the sacred items in the tabernacle, and the Kohathites moved them. The Kohathites learned to do their job carefully because if they were careless and tried to do the packing themselves, they would die. Only the priests could handle the sacred items.

BIG IDEAWork with intention and focus.

KEY VERSEPsalm 103:21
Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels who serve him and do his will!

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Serve me with gladness. I have plans for you! You are not an accident, and I have not placed you in your community, or school, or job in a random manner. I have put you amongst the people you can learn from and others who can learn from you. I am at work in the world and your life. Trust me and watch what I am doing.

Take time to get trained for ministry. Don’t rush into a task. Don’t focus on gaining the top spot. Focus on faithfully serving and doing a job well. Be a learner and always have a teachable spirit. Continue to grow and develop so that your skills expand. Ask questions and explore ways to grow and improve. Pour yourself into training others, too. You are my disciple, and I am equipping you to serve. Learn all you can because I want you to equip others to do the same.

NEXT STEP
Don’t work haphazardly. Do your job well. Have a sense of purpose and integrity in how you do your job. Even if it’s not one you enjoy, it provides income and an opportunity to be an example to others.
