Numbers 35

Numbers 35:1-34

SUMMARYSafe!

OVERVIEW: God provided towns and pastureland for the Levites. Some of those towns were cities of refuge, places people could go if they accidentally killed someone. It provided a safe place until the community could investigate the matter.

BIG IDEAJesus is our refuge, and we are safe with him.

KEY VERSEPsalm 9:9 (David’s prayer)
The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Come to me without hesitation. I am available and approachable, regardless of what you’ve done, how you think, or your circumstances. I want to be your first response. I want you to bring everything to me and invite me into your pain or confusion. Never run from your pain or enemies. There may be times to delay addressing them, but they must be faced. Doing so is one way I want to grow you and others who are involved.

If you feel the need to run, run to me. I will be your advocate and will provide for you. I may discipline you through the process, but that will be the first step towards healing. Unhealthy choices warrant consequences, so don’t delay them. Humble yourself, and let’s walk through it together. I will never leave you, and I will give you strength and courage. I am your refuge so take a healthy step of faith towards me.

NEXT STEP
Pay attention to the ways you talk to yourself. If it’s negative and condemning, dismiss those thoughts, for they are not from God. Review Philippians 4:8 on the types of things to think about instead.
