Numbers 22

Numbers 22:1-41

SUMMARYBlind prophet

OVERVIEW: Balaam is a “prophet” who prophesies at a price. He shows his disobedience comically when his donkey can “see” God at work before he can.

BIG IDEA: Don’t be blind to what God wants you to see.

KEY VERSENumbers 22:31 (God is always present)
Then the Lord opened Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the roadway with a drawn sword in his hand. Balaam bowed his head and fell face down on the ground before him.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Seek me. Hear me. Obey me. That’s a winning formula for life. Don’t simply listen for what you want to hear. Listen to my instruction and follow my plan. I do know what’s best for you. I also know your tendencies, so let me protect you from yourself. I want you to learn to trust me in all situations, not just the ones in which you think you need help. Give me all of your life and watch what I can do.

I used a donkey to get Balaam’s attention, but I want your focus without additional help. I want to teach you to see me and hear me in new ways. I want you to see people and the world the way I see them. I want you to tune in to frequencies that communicate need. Learn to listen and respond when I lead you forward. Don’t be overwhelmed by the task. Start today with a willingness to see me and hear me.

NEXT STEP
Take time to pause today and be still before God. Pray something like, “Here I am God. Teach me to see you and hear you.” Then wait. Be still for 1-2 minutes. Repeat that 2-3 times today. You may or may not hear from God, but learn to be ready.
