Bottom Line Bible: New (second) Testament

Looking for a Bible book to read?
Pick one of the New Testament books below and read a chapter every day . . . or four or more days a week.

Another word for Testament is covenant or agreement. The titles “Old Testament” and “New Testament” refer to the agreements between God and humanity before and after Christ’s sacrifice. The New Testament is a collection of 27 books of history, letters, and prophecy.

IMPORTANT: The designations “first testament” and “second testament” indicate the order in which they were written. The Old Testament is not “old news” and, therefore, no longer relevant. It was written first. The New Testament is God’s second–or new–agreement with humanity.

Both tell God’s story and reveal his love and plan for his creation while introducing the savior for the world.

"When Jesus was sacrificed on the cross, He ushered in the period of the New Testament or ‘New Agreement.’ He was the perfect, innocent sacrifice, and while the blood of the animal sacrifices was capable of only covering the peoples’ sin from God’s eyes, Jesus’ blood actually took it away—paid for our sin.

Under this New Agreement, we no longer are subject to all [the] laws. Instead, we have God Himself, in the form of the Holy Spirit, living right inside of us helping us do right instead of wrong. And it’s our faith in Christ, not how well we can follow all of the laws, that makes us righteous in God’s eyes."
