Matthew 9

Matthew 9:1-38

OVERVIEWJesus demonstrates he has all power and authority by forgiving sin, rebuking demons, and healing the sick.

BIG IDEAJesus did not come for those who think they are righteous but for those who know they are sinners (verse 13).

KEY VERSEMatthew 9:7–8 (Jesus heals paralyzed man)
And the man jumped up and went home! Fear swept through the crowd as they saw this happen. And they praised God for giving humans such authority.

I know you are hurting. I know about your physical suffering. I know about your emotional pain. I know about your spiritual struggles. Brokenness and pain are consistent with being human. I have the power to heal you instantly, but my primary interest is your faith in me. Regardless of your circumstances, show me that you trust me. Faith strengthens our relationship. Faith is evident in your willingness to follow me in difficult times and in good times.

When this brief life on earth is over, you will live in a place where miracles of healing are not necessary. There will be no sickness, death, or pain in heaven. In this life, my primary concern is that you know me deeply. Do not give up. Lean on me through your physical pain. Surrender to me so I can heal the hurts, habits, and hang-ups that drag you down. Do not give up. Let me tenderly care for your bruised and hurt life. Trust me, and do not give up.

Think of one person you know who is struggling physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Take five minutes now to pray for that person. Call him or her today and encourage them.
