Matthew 26:1-75

SUMMARY: The plot

OVERVIEWJudas, the chief priests, and the elders plot to arrest Jesus and kill him.

BIG IDEANothing surprises God.

KEY VERSEMatthew 26:14–16 (Judas agrees to betray Jesus)
Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Don’t be misled about who I am and what I intend to do in your life. If you think I am here to make you rich or famous or able to control others, you will be disappointed. When confronted by challenges, you will leave me behind for the selfish things you seek. Leaving me behind leads to emptiness and hopelessness.

So instead, remember that following me makes you a servant. Following me is about surrender and humility and putting others first. Following me is about changing the world one heart at a time, starting with yours. You know me. You have experienced the miracle of my presence in your life. Don’t throw that away for a moment of pleasure or power or popularity. Resist that temptation and follow me. Walk with me. I will carry you when necessary. Practice listening for my voice. I will teach you to hear me so that you can live the life you’ve always wanted.
