Matthew 22

Matthew 22:1-46

SUMMARY: Greatest

OVERVIEW: Parable of the wedding banquet and the Pharisees and Sadducees again attempt to trap and test Jesus.

BIG IDEALoving God and loving people is the most excellent foundation for life.

KEY VERSEMatthew 22:37–39 (Jesus to Pharisees)
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Let me be your passion. Let all of your thoughts be a prayer to me. Giving all of yourself to anything or anyone but me will lead to a wasted life. Choose to love me more. Choose me first.

You won’t find me in your list of do’s and don’ts. You will find me wherever you surrender to me. As you let me have more and more of you, you will keep my commands for a healthy life in a natural way, not out of religious duty. You will find yourself loving others—even those you don’t like.

Making me your priority is not about withdrawing from life or people; it is about living the most abundant version of your life, with the most meaningful relationships. You will always have many people and issues and emergencies, seeking your time and attention. You will bounce from crisis to crisis, achieving some success but little satisfaction. Everything changes when you make me your priority. Stop chasing dreams and deadlines and follow me. Let me shape and order your life.

NEXT STEP
Take time this week to analyze how your life is structured. Are you learning from God, enjoying him, expressing his love to others? Don’t be overwhelmed trying to do, do, do. Ask God to help you re-prioritize where necessary.
