Judges 2:1-23

SUMMARYPredictable results

OVERVIEWAfter Joshua and his generation died, the next generation ignored God and did evil in his sight.

BIG IDEAWhen you disregard God, he will allow you to experience the consequence of that decision.

KEY VERSEJudges 2:10–12 (Natural consequence)
After that generation died, another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the Lord or remember the mighty things he had done for Israel. The Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight and served the images of Baal. They abandoned the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They went after other gods, worshiping the gods of the people around them. And they angered the Lord.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I always hear your prayers. I always know where you are and what you need. Call on me, and I will respond. I will never break my agreement to be with you and empower you. But follow me completely. Don’t just follow me when it’s convenient or when you’re in need. Don’t weep when you make wrong decisions and hope your pain or consequences go away. Repent when you go the wrong way. Turn to me and take steps on the correct path.

Invest in our relationship. Get to know me, my heart, my love, and my grace. And help others know and experience me, too. Teach them that I love them and am for them. But help them understand when I discipline, it is not to judge or shame them. Never! It’s to draw them back to me. It’s to motivate them to turn around and call on me. I want you and all my followers to know me and my love. I want to lead your lives. Follow me today.

NEXT STEP
Your job is not just to live for God but to equip the next generation to do so. Make disciples by teaching your children and those in the next generation how to feed themselves spiritually and follow God.
