Joshua 24

Joshua 24:1-33

SUMMARY: Final words

OVERVIEW: Before Joshua dies, he recommits to follow God and challenges Israel to do the same.

BIG IDEA: Choose today who you will serve.

KEY VERSEJoshua 24:15 (Joshua’s challenge)
But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Remember who I am. I am a holy and jealous God. Don’t flippantly say you will follow me. Don’t play games with your faith. You get to choose who you will follow. But make a choice. And if you do want me, recognize that life as a Jesus follower will take all of your time and attention. But it will be the best decision you’ll ever make. You will reap dividends for eternity. Nothing else supplies like that.

You can do this! But don’t go alone. Humbly walk with me alongside others. You’ll need teammates to support and surround you. Don’t try to walk with me on your own. Do it in community, with friends to pick you up and keep you going when life gets tough. A healthy community will also give you a chance to be a reliable friend and teammate for others. I am worth following. I am all you’ll want and all you’ll ever need.

NEXT STEP
Live faithfully for God this week. Identify one practice you can do over the next 4-5 days that will remind you to follow God faithfully?
