Joshua 10

Joshua 10

Joshua 10:1-43

SUMMARYSun stopped

OVERVIEWThe sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. Was it (1) poetic imagery (seemed like the sun stood still), (2) total eclipse (“stand still” means “be eclipsed”), or (3) prolonged light (by slowing the earth or the tilting of the earth or by the refraction of light)? Basically, we don’t know. But that’s the nature of miracles! (Dr. J. Carl Laney class notes)

BIG IDEAAsk God for a miracle.

KEY VERSEJoshua 10:14 (commentary on the miracle)
There has never been a day like this one before or since, when the Lord answered such a prayer. Surely the Lord fought for Israel that day!

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I am God. I am creator. I am a miracle maker. I am still doing miracles today and want to do one in your life and the lives of friends and family and those around you. Seek me and ask me for the miraculous. Be bold. Don’t just ask for relief from a problem—ask me to solve the problem.

I am a God of grace and mercy. I am not like humans who are prone to hold grudges. I still provided for Israel even though they did not seek my wisdom and unwisely made an agreement with their enemy. I will discipline you for your disobedience, but I will not stop loving you or caring for you. Don’t think that because you got yourself into a mess that you need to get yourself out of it, too. That’s foolish thinking. Call on me to help you. I love you, I am with you, and I am all-powerful. Invite me to lead your life.

NEXT STEP
Be in awe of God’s power. Can you trust God for the miraculous and believe he can do anything? Sit quietly before God. Tell God you trust him and thank him for his love and power.
