Jonah 4

Jonah 4:1-11

SUMMARYRevealed

OVERVIEWGod further reveals his character. God saves the city of Ninevah and seeks to soften and grow Jonah’s heart.

BIG IDEAGod is always at work in the world, drawing people to himself and molding and shaping each of us.

KEY VERSEJonah 4:2b (Jonah’s prayer)
I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
It is true. I am gracious. I am compassionate. I am slow to anger. I am abounding in love. And I do relent from sending calamity. I am these things and so much more. I want you to not only know these things and experience these things, but I want you to share these truths with others. I do not just want you to believe in me with your head. I want your heart. Surrender it to me and allow me to mold it and shape it.

Stop playing judge, determining who is and isn’t worthy to receive my love. Your job is to love others, and my job is to get them to respond to me. Don’t live a selfish life, claiming me for yourself. So many people need me. And I don’t want people only to hear about me. I want them to invite me in and give me the deed to their lives. Don’t take control back. Keep it in my hands—the best place for it to be.

NEXT STEP
Humble yourself before God. Ask God to search your heart and see if there’s anything in you he wants to change.
