John 16. dichotomy

John 16:1-33

SUMMARYDichotomy

OVERVIEWJesus teaches his disciples that the Holy Spirit will guide and convict the world of sin. He also prepares them that they would experience opposition, but to remember that he overcame the world.

BIG IDEAJesus has overcome the world and Jesus is with me.

KEY VERSEJohn 16:33 (Jesus to disciples)
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Following me does not exempt you from hardship, struggles, or tragedy. The world you live in is overladen with those things and filled with human beings who make poor decisions. The miracle is not that I remove all evil or tragedy. The miracle is that I am with you through it, turning even the worst things into some opportunity for others to see me. When you see or feel pain, look up and around and see how I may still be working.

You can have peace during trials. You can be comforted when surrounded by chaos. Remember that I am with you and am more significant than any challenge or test you endure. It may be hard to see it now, but I am much bigger and more infinite than this brief moment you have on earth. Take time to look for me and hear from me in all situations. You are never alone. I am with you. Always.

NEXT STEP
Is someone you know experiencing a great tragedy or painful struggle? Take time to pray for this person. Take time to reach out with a visit or phone call. Don’t try to explain what they are going through or speak for God; show them love and support.
