SUMMARYRepent

OVERVIEWEliphaz wants Job to repent so God will bless him again.

BIG IDEAThe most important thing you may say is nothing at all.

KEY VERSEJob 5:8–9 (Eliphaz to Job)
If I were you, I would go to God and present my case to him. He does great things too marvelous to understand. He performs countless miracles.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Truth abounds, but it’s not always timely. When caring for someone, remember that things are seldom what they seem. I know all the details. You don’t. You think you do, but you don’t. Don’t play detective or judge. Let me do my job, and you do yours. I want you to be a friend.

If your friend is hurting because he made a poor choice, he’s already aware of what he did and doesn’t need to hear it from you. He probably needs a hug or reminder that you care. Or your friend may be hurting for a reason no one can identify. Don’t try to discover the answer for him. Just hang out and be available. The most important thing you may say is nothing at all. Pray for wisdom to know when to visit, how long to visit, and what to say. But do show up—with ears to listen and a heart to love.

NEXT STEP
Is there someone to whom you need to apologize for being judgmental and preachy? Let them know you care and make yourself available to help as they want you to rather than in the way that you think they need.
