OVERVIEW: The captain of the guard invites Jeremiah to go to Babylon and be taken care of, but Jeremiah decides to remain behind to care for and minister to the few who remained in the land.
BIG IDEA: Seek God’s will before making decisions—you may be surprised.
KEY VERSE: Jeremiah 40:6 (Jeremiah stays with his people rather than receive special treatment in Babylon)
So Jeremiah went to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah and stayed with him among the people who were left behind in the land.
IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
You will always have options in life. And sometimes it will be right to choose what you want to do. But always seek me first. I care about you and want to protect you. There may be times I want you to rest and seek comfort, but there may be other times I want you to put your desires aside to serve others. Don’t make a decision based on how you feel. Make a decision based on how I lead you.
Wherever you end up, keep your eyes open and your heart soft. Even if you are resting at home, I want you to be tuned in to my Spirit. I may have you care for those in your home or neighborhood, or I may have you encourage or teach someone around the world. Or I may want to remind you of my love and care. In everything, however, seek me, walk with me, and rest in me.
