Jeremiah 4

Jeremiah 4:1-31

SUMMARYCome back

OVERVIEW: God warns Israel of the consequences of sin and pleads with them to return to him.

BIG IDEA: When we stray from God, he invites us to return to him.

KEY VERSEJeremiah 4:22 (God’s critique)
“My people are foolish and do not know me,” says the Lord. “They are stupid children who have no understanding. They are clever enough at doing wrong, but they have no idea how to do right!”

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
You may take time to look good on the outside and even perform acts of kindness to demonstrate faithful living. Those are good when done with proper motives, but I want more. I want your heart. Because if I get your heart, I’ll get the rest of you. If you walk away from me, I will wait for you to return and give me your heart. Let me cleanse it and wash the wickedness from it. I will even give you a new heart, but you must take the first step.

Return to me. Apart from my engagement, you will have to fight enemies on your own. That will prove disastrous—you will be overcome and destroyed. Don’t live foolishly. Stop trying to figure everything out on your own. Return to me, and allow me to lead you and to shape you. Allow me to supply protection and provision. But don’t play games. I want to be in a relationship with you. Return to me quickly.

NEXT STEP
Pray and ask God to reveal any sin in your life—large or small—and confess it to God. Don’t ignore the small or sin or be overwhelmed by the large. God cares about it and can handle all of it.
