Jeremiah 35

Jeremiah 35:1-19

SUMMARYGreat example

OVERVIEWGod honors the Rekabites for being more faithful and obedient than the people of Judah.

BIG IDEAGive God’s law more of a priority than human law or tradition.

KEY VERSEJeremiah 35:16 (God to Judah)
The descendants of Jehonadab son of Recab have obeyed their ancestor completely, but you have refused to listen to me.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Do not focus so much on following through on earthly commitments that you ignore or trivialize your loyalty to me. Honor those in authority over you. Serve them well. But I want you to do the same with me. When you faithfully serve others, you honor me. And when you honor me, you will find it easy to serve others faithfully. I want to be your priority and focus. Many people say they love me, yet their actions, words, and thoughts declare otherwise.

Set an example for other believers. When I speak, be quick to obey. Even when tempted, resolve to remain committed to me. Let your faithful determination inspire others to seek me and follow me. You can be the example that encourages new and seasoned believers to trust me and take their next step of faith. I promised I will be with you always, and that will never change. I will also provide everything you need to resist temptation and to follow me.

NEXT STEP
Traditions are good as long as they serve God’s word and law. Has anything or anyone become more of a priority in your life than obeying God? If so, make the necessary changes. If you are not sure, ask God to search your heart and ask trusted friends their opinion.
