SUMMARYTough job

OVERVIEWJeremiah is overwhelmed by God’s task yet still compelled to share God’s good news. Still, by the end of the chapter, he curses the day he was ever born.

BIG IDEAGod is always present and ready to provide what we need to follow him.

KEY VERSEJeremiah 20:9 (Jeremiah’s prayer)
But if I say I’ll never mention the Lord or speak in his name, his word burns in my heart like a fire. It’s like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can’t do it!

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I know life can sometimes be challenging. I know you feel overwhelmed and frustrated by what you cannot do. I know you want to see more miracles, more changed lives, less pain, and less division amongst family and friends. I know you sometimes feel that following me is an impossible task. Imagine how I feel when I created a perfect environment for humanity and see what it has become. I did not give up hope, and I don’t want you to, either.

Be honest with me about how you feel. Tell me everything—don’t hold back. But get the rest you need and take care of the body I gave you. I am going to continue to lead you into the middle of battle. I have confidence in you and want you to invest in the lives of those you know and in new and frightening situations. But don’t panic because I will be with you. I will give you words to say and wisdom to know when to say them. Seek me and follow me. Don’t try to be perfect. Take one step at a time. I am with you.

NEXT STEP
Evaluate how you take care of your physical body. Do you need to eat better? Get more exercise? Get more sleep? Pick one of those and practice good habits in that area this week. Share your plan with a friend and ask for accountability.
