Isaiah 7:1-25

SUMMARYFalse devotion

OVERVIEWKing Ahaz ignored the sign from the Lord and instead focused on the immediate threats facing him.

BIG IDEAGod’s plan is always greater than your own—no matter how smart you think you are.

KEY VERSEIsaiah 7:13 (Isaiah to Ahaz and his descendants)
Then Isaiah said, “Listen well, you royal family of David! Isn’t it enough to exhaust human patience? Must you exhaust the patience of my God as well?

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
When you are afraid, when you are anxious or don’t know what to do, seek me. But seek me with your whole heart. Don’t turn to me only because others expect it. I want a moment-by-moment type of relationship with you. I don’t want to be the default friend you call when no one else is available. I have so much to offer—more than you can know.

I want to teach you to trust me, I want to show you my plan, and I want to equip you to overcome life’s obstacles. But that is difficult to do when you choose fear instead of faith. So don’t use “God words” or “church words” in front of others when you don’t mean them. I want to be in a relationship with you, and if you don’t want that, I will let you go your own way. But if you change your mind, call on me, and I will receive you.

NEXT STEP
Turn off the radio or stay off your phone as you drive or walk today and listen to God. Ask God to reveal any ways in which you are choosing to follow your plan instead of God’s plan for your life.
