Isaiah 66

Isaiah 66:1-24

SUMMARYFootstool

OVERVIEWGod desires authentic worship, not religious performance. He delights in those who humbly pursue him and tremble at his word. Comfort and peace await those who seek God, while judgment and despair are ahead for those who follow their path.

BIG IDEAYou are not as great as you think you are, and God is far greater than you can imagine.

KEY VERSEIsaiah 66:1-2 (God to Israel)
This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that? Could you build me such a resting place? My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken! I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word.”

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
A day of great victory is coming for those who love me and humble themselves before me. A day of great sorrow is coming for those who mock me and pretend to love me. Hear my word and tremble. Recognize my authority and submit to me. Although my power is mammoth and all-encompassing, I will love you as my child. As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.

Take time today to worship me. Practice what you will do for eternity—exalt me and lift my name. Do so in the quiet of your home and amongst friends and other believers. People from all nations will join together and offer me praise, so look at others as brothers and sisters. Extend your hand to those who are different from you and serve me together. I am coming with mercy, and I will come with judgment. Look to me for your eternal salvation and trust me for your daily bread.

NEXT STEP
Evaluate your heart and actions. Are you serving God as a meaningless ritual? Confess that as sin and start afresh. Worship God for his greatness and thank him for his love and provision.
