Isaiah 32

Isaiah 32:1-20

SUMMARYWhat matters

OVERVIEW: God challenges the proud and self-centered to repent and to stop relying on themselves and, instead, to turn to him where they will find peace and security.

BIG IDEA: There are two types of people: one whose eyes can see and ears can hear, and another who speaks folly and whose heart is bent on evil.

KEY VERSESIsaiah 32:7-8 (Isaiah to Israel)
The smooth tricks of scoundrels are evil. They plot crooked schemes. They lie to convict the poor, even when the cause of the poor is just. But generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Be a godly leader and follow godly leadership. Your influence matters. Don’t hesitate on whether or not you are a leader. You are. However, your primary calling is to be a follower, so follow me enthusiastically. Open your eyes to the work I am doing around you. Open your ears to hear my voice calling you. But there will be times when I place you in a position to lead those around you. It may be as a parent or other family member. It may be as a teammate or on the job. It may even be by setting a positive example as you drive or shop.

Follow me as I lead you and set an example for all around you. Never think more highly of yourself than you ought. You are my child, and I have given you value and worth. But you are to serve those around you. Focus on what matters most: listen for me, follow me, and enjoy all I am doing in and around you.

NEXT STEP
Evaluate your attitude today. Pay attention to how you respond to the authority figures in your life, those who follow your leadership, and even those with whom you have no formal relationship. Ask God to make you more aware of his leadership in your life.
