Hosea 5

Hosea 5. Time out

Hosea 5:1-15

SUMMARYTime out

OVERVIEWGod disciplines Israel. He withdraws his presence so Israel can reap what she has sewn. He waits for Israel to repent and return to him.

BIG IDEAYou can’t hide your sin, so be honest with God and confess it.

KEY VERSE: Hosea 5:15 (God to Israel)
Then I will return to my place until they admit their guilt and turn to me. For as soon as trouble comes, they will earnestly search for me.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
When you sin, be quick to turn back to me and confess it. I want a relationship with you and offer forgiveness. But do not live according to your law, doing things when you want and how you want. Don’t allow your pride to lead you astray. Don’t love the admiration you receive from others when you turn from me. They may love you today, but I will love you forever. When you no longer provide the thrill or whatever they desire, they will turn on you. I will not. I await your return because you are my child today and always.

But I will not allow you to live in whatever you want without discipline. When you freely sin and then call on me, I will not respond. Repent of your sin. Turn from your way and turn to me. When you seek me with a humble heart, I will always reply. Until then, you will reap what you have sown.

NEXT STEP
Put aside anyone or anything that hinders your relationship with God. Ask some trusted friends to point out anything they see. Confess any sin and turn towards God, asking for his help.
