Haggai 2:1-23

SUMMARYGreater than

OVERVIEWThe Temple was not nearly as grand as the previous one, but God wanted to remind those concerned that his glory would fill the Temple, and it would be a place of peace.

BIG IDEADon’t seek joy based on the perceived value of your task. Find pleasure and satisfaction in serving the Lord.

KEY VERSEHaggai 2:9 (God to Israel)
The future glory of this Temple will be greater than its past glory, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. And in this place I will bring peace. I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
When you serve me or work on a project to tell others about me, don’t get so consumed with the task that you forget about me. Never let your service exceed your worship. Keep your eyes focused in my direction and let me worry about the results. Whether you worship in a grand palace or in a junkyard, I want authentic worship. One group’s worship is not more valuable than another based on their building. I want your hearts to be fully surrendered and your commitment to follow me to be high. Your faithfulness brings me joy, regardless of where you are.

Be a blessing to those around you by making wise decisions. Poor choices are contagious. Inspire others to know me and follow me through love and good works. But be authentic and don’t put on an act. The difference is obvious so focus on knowing me and worshipping me, and I will take care of the results.

NEXT STEP
Spend more time today focusing on God’s glory and who he is rather than on what you want to do for him. Whenever you pray today, begin and end your prayer recognizing God’s greatness.
