SUMMARY: Proper boasting
OVERVIEW: There’s no need to boast of your spiritual strength. The only appropriate boasting is to highlight the work Christ has done in your life.
BIG IDEA: Be loud and proud of all Christ has done and is doing in your life.
KEY VERSE: Galatians 6:14 (Paul’s declaration)
As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.
IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I have given you the gift of eternal life. You will be with me always, in my presence, living in joy and peace. That’s your future. Presently, you’ve already begun your eternal life. So while you are on earth, there’s a quality of life I want you to experience. There’s a blessing you will find in following me that will enlarge your heart and encourage your faith. You will have confidence that only comes from my Spirit.
Use that confidence to boast of the work Christ has done in your life. Use it to serve others, whether helping restore a brother or sister who has sinned, or in taking opportunities to do good to those around you. Let others know that what Jesus has done for you, he will do for them, as well. If others persecute you for what you believe, bless your enemies by praying for them and choosing to love them. I will give you what you need when you need it.
NEXT STEP
Find someone who is angry or discouraged or frustrated. Look for an opportunity to serve that person today. If they ask why you are helping them, tell them you wanted to show Christ’s love. Ask if you can pray for them. Ask if you can listen to what’s troubling them.
