Ezekiel 35

Ezekiel 35:1-15

SUMMARYProud boasts

OVERVIEWGod announced judgment against Edom for its hatred toward Israel and their excessive pride.

BIG IDEAIt is foolish to fight God.

KEY VERSEEzekiel 35:3–4 (God to Edom)
This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you and make you a desolate waste. I will turn your towns into ruins and you will be desolate. Then you will know that I am the Lord.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Many have resisted me, and I have allowed them to go their own way. I invite them to return, but it is difficult for the proud to submit, even to a loving heavenly father. Don’t be like them. Humble yourself before me. If you do rise up and live selfishly, be quick to turn back. Those who think they can make a change whenever they want find that the hole they’ve dug is too deep to escape.

Do not look for ways to profit from others’ mishaps or mistakes. When you scheme and draw others in to increase the likelihood of your success, you become my enemy. I will fight for and defend my people. Do not be so foolish as to allow your ego to direct your path. When you are tempted to go against me, cry out to me. Use every ounce of energy to call on my name. Overcome your pride through humility. I love you and want to lead you. Humble yourself and follow me.

NEXT STEP
Reflect on why it is beneficial to live humbly before God. What are the benefits in doing so and what are the potential consequences of not doing so? Use your list as a means to pray that you regularly seek God and his way.
