Exodus 36

Exodus 36:1-38

SUMMARYOverflowing

OVERVIEWMen and women overwhelmed the leaders by their generous gifts to the work of the Lord.

BIG IDEAGenerous giving is one sign of a healthy heart.

KEY VERSEExodus 36:6–7 (Israel’s generosity)
So Moses gave the command, and this message was sent throughout the camp: “Men and women, don’t prepare any more gifts for the sanctuary. We have enough!” So the people stopped bringing their sacred offerings. Their contributions were more than enough to complete the whole project.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I want you to have a healthy heart. I want it to beat thoroughly for the people I love and for me. Show your love through giving your time and talent. But don’t ignore financial gifts. Those are important, as loosening your grip on money will free you to live with power and purpose. I want to be your God. I want to be the one you hunger for. Do not let your appetite for money or items poison your heart and mind. Stay focused on what matters most by giving to my kingdom work.

You will never miss what you give, for I will continue to provide what you need. Don’t hold so tightly to money that there’s no room for me to add more. I can fill an open hand, but I can’t do anything with a clenched fist. Giving is an act of faith. Grow your faith this week.

NEXT STEP
Be a generous giver today or this week. Ideas: surprise someone with a gift, give over and above your usual amount at church, send an extra month of support to a missionary, give to a local food shelter.
