Exodus 18:1-27

SUMMARYTeamwork

OVERVIEWJethro, Moses’ father-in-law, provided Moses three leadership lessons to prevent him from being overwhelmed: teach, organize, delegate.

BIG IDEAAlways be teachable. Always be learning.

KEY VERSEExodus 18:18 (Jethro to Moses)
You’re going to wear yourself out—and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
You may be doing too much. I did not design you to do everything on your own and become overwhelmed. I gifted you to serve me, but I’ve blessed those around you, too. Don’t isolate yourself or be so controlling you won’t let anyone help. Take pleasure in completing assignments, but don’t limit your focus to the project. Put relationships over tasks. Open your eyes to those beside you, or invite someone to work with you. Ask questions when you work with others. Learn all you can about them and discover ways to pray for and encourage them.

I am with you, and my Spirit will empower you. Seek me and follow me. And while you do that, enjoy the blessing of being in community with others. It’s good to be still, and it’s good to spend time in quiet reflection, but don’t do everything alone. Serve me with teammates. Your load will be lighter, and your heart will be full.

NEXT STEP
Choose a project to do with a friend or family member. Choose something you want to learn from them or use it as a chance to teach what you know. Also, use it as a time to discover how you can pray for them.
