Deuteronomy 6

Deuteronomy 6:1-25

SUMMARYBe careful

OVERVIEW: Moses reminds Israel that they are only to worship the one true God, and in doing so, God will bless them.

BIG IDEA: Remember who God is and how he provided. “Be careful not to forget the Lord, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt.” (verse 12).

KEY VERSEDeuteronomy 6:4–5 (Moses to Israel)
Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
There’s no need to look to other gods or comparison shop. Just as I faithfully provided for Israel and as I’ve done for you thus far, I will continue to do the same in your life. But you must seek me. And you must follow me. It isn’t enough to know what I want. Obey me. You show me you trust me when you obey. And consider what you receive through obedience. You get to enjoy life, you get to receive my blessing, and you get freedom and peace throughout your body and soul. Many pay high prices pursuing what I offer for free.

I also want you to focus on investing in your family. You have not been placed haphazardly amongst your relatives. I have a plan. And your sharing about me and living out your faith is part of that plan. Sometimes family members can ignore or push aside what you think, but continue to plant seeds and water them, and I will cause something to grow.

NEXT STEP
Share your faith with your children or other family members. Tell them what God is teaching you lately, how you are seeing God at work in your life, and then how they can pray for you.
