Deuteronomy 5:1-33

SUMMARYRemix

OVERVIEW: Moses teaches the Ten Commandments to a new generation.

BIG IDEA: The law was given for the freedom to live an abundant life, not a legalistic one.

KEY VERSEDeuteronomy 5:32–33 (Moses to Israel)
So Moses told the people, “You must be careful to obey all the commands of the Lord your God, following his instructions in every detail. Stay on the path that the Lord your God has commanded you to follow. Then you will live long and prosperous lives in the land you are about to enter and occupy.”

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
My commands come from a heart of love. I am a father who cares, and I want my children to thrive and enjoy my blessing. I’ve given you laws and boundaries so that you can experience an abundant, joy-filled life. My laws are not restrictions or a way to earn my love—just the opposite. You are already loved, so stay within my boundaries and enjoy. Not only will you be blessed, but your children and their children will as well.

Seek me and follow me. Oh, that your desire to fear me and obey me would move your heart, then you would enjoy me, too. I know laws sound limiting, but they release you to enjoy and experience life as I intended. Go and play! Learn my commands and live by them. Share them with others. Teach them so that others would know me and my love. But stay alert. Be careful. Each day you must choose whom you will follow. Many will vie for your attention but remain committed to me and my way.

NEXT STEP
Thank God for the limits in your life. Thank him for the rules and boundaries that protect you and provide a means for blessing.
