Deuteronomy 4

Deuteronomy 4:1-49

SUMMARYNo one

OVERVIEW: Moses reviews the past with Israel’s new generation, reminding them of their priority to seek and obey God alone, the one true God.

BIG IDEA: God is merciful but also jealous, so make God your priority and look to no one else.

KEY VERSEDeuteronomy 4:39 (Moses to Israel)
So remember this and keep it firmly in mind: The Lord is God both in heaven and on earth, and there is no other.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I have taught you because I love you. My love, my limits, and my leadership are eternal. Learn them and live by them. But love them, too, as they are your guide and your protection. They will make you wise and cause others to acknowledge that you are blessed. Teach these truths to others. Help people know I want a relationship with them so that they, too, might live full, abundant lives.

But be careful. It’s easy to live a life of love and blessing and forget from where the blessings originate. Many give credit to themselves or others for the grace and abundance they enjoy. They make idols of themselves or others and ignore me or take me for granted. Don’t let that happen to you. I am a consuming fire, a jealous God. I warn you because I want you to know there is no other god besides me. I am the source of your life. If you look elsewhere, you will find nothing. I want to protect you from living an empty life.

NEXT STEP
What do you think about when you first wake up? What do you think about during the day? Evaluate what gets most of your time and attention. If God is not a priority, discipline yourself to be more aware of what he has done and what he is doing in your life.
