Deuteronomy 18

Deuteronomy 18:1-22

SUMMARYUltimate Prophet

OVERVIEWGod promises to raise up a prophet from among Israel who will speak for him. Acts 3:19-22 identifies that prophet as Jesus.

BIG IDEA: God is at work in and around you. What is he doing, and what is he saying?

KEY VERSEJohn 1:45 (Philip to Nathanael)
Philip went to look for Nathanael and told him, “We have found the very person Moses and the prophets wrote about! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth.”

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
All along, I said I would raise up a prophet who would have the final, authoritative word. Jesus is the fulfillment of that prophecy. Look to him only. Allow Jesus to live through you and help others know he is alive and offers hope to all. Learn to hear and respond to my voice. I know mine is not the only voice in the world, but it is the most valuable. Many compete for your attention, but only my voice and instruction will bless you today and always. Other voices promise temporary satisfaction, but it will come at great expense.

You will get opportunities today to imitate the bad examples—in word, thought, and deed—of those around you or the dominant influencers in the world. I want to be your leading influence. I want to shape the way you live, the words you share, the thoughts you consider. Trust me and my way, and let me shine through you.

NEXT STEP
Reflect on how you think, act, and speak. Are you controlled more by bad examples in the world or by the ways God is leading you? Confess any sin and follow the promptings of God’s Spirit today.
