Genesis 48:1-22

SUMMARY: Jacob blesses

OVERVIEWJacob blesses Joseph’s sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, giving them an inheritance as his sons. Joseph is displeased that his father gives his younger son the greater blessing.

BIG IDEACount your blessings. Name them one by one.

KEY VERSE: Genesis 48:19 (Jacob to Joseph)
But his father refused. “I know, my son; I know,” he replied. “Manasseh will also become a great people, but his younger brother will become even greater. And his descendants will become a multitude of nations.”

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Receive my blessings joyfully. I want you to have them, so open your arms and identify them. Enjoy your blessings. Use them in ways that bring hope and healing to others. I will often choose to bless you differently from the way I bless others. Don’t compare the blessings. Don’t grant values to each one. Thank me for what I’ve provided for you and others.

You may want other blessings or think I should distribute them differently. In those moments, remember who I am and who you are. You are my child whom I love. But I am your creator. I am God, and you are not. Trust me. I will always provide what you need when you need it—“just in time” blessings. I want you to focus on being faithful. Learn the rhythm of a faith-filled, gracious life. Thank me, celebrate with others, and use what I provide to enjoy and serve others.

NEXT STEP
Identify ten ways God has blessed you. Thank him for them and if any of your blessings are people, take time to share your gratitude for them today.
