SUMMARY: Complaints
OVERVIEW: Jeremiah complains that the wicked seem to prosper, but God acknowledges that they will reap what they sow in the end. God also laments that he has to discipline Israel for their wickedness.
BIG IDEA: Sin is costly and brings judgment, but God protects and provides for his children.
KEY VERSE: Jeremiah 12:13 (God to Jeremiah)
My people have planted wheat but are harvesting thorns. They have worn themselves out, but it has done them no good. They will harvest a crop of shame because of the fierce anger of the Lord.
IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I know how you feel about sin. You want immediate justice and for me to eradicate all sin from the world. You are not the only one who feels this way. I, too, long for righteousness, and I, too, want to eliminate sin. That time is coming. I will judge the sinful, and I will remove all evil from the world. Just not yet, however.
If I removed all evil today, many whom I love would be forever outside of my presence. I hold back my judgment because I love the world. I continue to wait, giving each person another day to repent, turn to me, and surrender their lives. I also provide you with time to make wise choices. I have removed the penalty of sin from your life, but I want to see you grow in faithful living and obedience to me. Each day I hold back judgment is another day for you to choose me and my way. Follow me today and share my love with others.
NEXT STEP
Give your grief to God. Speak honestly with him about your concerns and how you feel. But acknowledge God’s wisdom and thank him for his love and forgiveness.
