SUMMARYTen Commandments

OVERVIEWIsrael already had an established relationship with God when they left Egypt, a redeemed people (Ex. 6:6,7). The Ten Commandments showed Israel how to live in a relationship with God and one another.

BIG IDEAGod’s laws provide healthy boundaries for life.

KEY VERSEExodus 20:2–3 (God to the Israelites)
I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. You must not have any other god but me.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
The law is not a means for a relationship with me. When you surrender your life to me and ask me to be the leader of your life, you become my child. You are mine, and I am yours. Look no further for direction or stability in life—you have found it in me. My law will lead you towards health, however. I am a holy God—and a jealous God. My jealousy is for you, though, because I do not want you to be deceived by another. I will fight for you because I love you and want you to live the life I’ve created you to live.

All of my instructions are based on love and are honored when you choose to put me first. Let me be your priority, and watch me provide. It takes faith to follow me. My way may not always make sense or be easy, but it is correct. I love being your heavenly father.

How are you at honoring the sabbath? Do you set aside 24 hours each week to rest and spend time with God, family, and friends? If not, plan a day where you can do that this week.
