2 Samuel 9

2 Samuel 9:1-13

SUMMARYKindness

OVERVIEWThe word “kindness” is used four times in this chapter (NLT) to describe David’s actions towards Mephibosheth. Similarly, God is kind and gracious to us.

BIG IDEASurprise someone with kindness today.

KEY VERSE2 Samuel 9:7 (David to Mephibosheth)
“Don’t be afraid!” David said. “I intend to show kindness to you because of my promise to your father, Jonathan. I will give you all the property that once belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will eat here with me at the king’s table!”

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Go out of your way to show kindness. When you love and serve others, especially those who don’t expect or deserve it, you follow my example. I love being gracious to you and others. Love others without expecting anything in return. Do so in a way that they can’t help but wonder why you would be so generous. Use that as a way to talk of my love—undeserving but extravagant.

Just as Mephibosheth was not able to provide for himself, the same is true for you. You have skills and abilities, but none of them remove your sin. I do that through Christ, and as a result, I have adopted you as my child. Not only will I pour out my blessings and provide for you, but you will always have a seat at my table. You are my child, whom I love. Enjoy all I have provided and extend my love to others.

NEXT STEP
Who is in your life that you can surprise with an act of kindness? It might be someone you know, or someone others tell you about, but look for a way to show God’s love in a meaningful way. Don’t always give to the most obvious. Is there someone often hidden, whom others forget or ignore?
