2 Samuel 10

2 Samuel 10:1-19

SUMMARYFoolishness

OVERVIEWThe Ammonites misunderstood David’s kindness as a threat. They humiliated David’s men and prepared to fight Israel.

BIG IDEADon’t be a fool. “Be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves” (Matthew 10:16).

KEY VERSE: 2 Samuel 10:12 (Joab to his brother)
Be courageous! Let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. May the Lord’s will be done.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Seek me. Impulsive living might be a thrill, but it can be costly. It is wise to think before you act. Not only will it save you from lots of trouble, but it will grow your character. And when you add praying before your act, that will strengthen your faith muscles and develop your spiritual insight. Too many people respond to their feelings or attractive offers, and when that causes trouble for them, they waste time recovering. I can redeem all things, but why not seek me in the first place?

If you hunger for a thrill, follow me. I will give you the most extraordinary experience you could imagine. I will lead you to people and places who will be different because of your obedience. You can change lives and have fun in the process. I’m not saying it will be trouble-free or that you will be comfortable. But if you want to invest your life in something that matters and lasts for eternity, follow me.

NEXT STEP
Slow down today. Before making significant or impulsive decisions, stop to pray. Ask God for wisdom, and ask a trusted friend for counsel.
