SUMMARY: Double portion
OVERVIEW: Elisha asked Elijah to receive a double portion of his spirit. He received it upon Elijah’s departure and faithfully served God.
BIG IDEA: Pray boldly, keep focused on God, and walk faithfully.
KEY VERSE: 2 Kings 2:13–14 (After Elijah was taken up into heaven)
Elisha picked up Elijah’s cloak, which had fallen when he was taken up. Then Elisha returned to the bank of the Jordan River. He struck the water with Elijah’s cloak and cried out, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” Then the river divided, and Elisha went across.
IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I have much I want to do in and through you—far more than you can imagine. I will give you opportunities today and in the future. Focus today on being FAT: faithful, available, and teachable. Be faithful to all I’ve called you to do through my word and the Holy Spirit. Be available to serve and spend time with me. Don’t over commit. Know when to say ‘no,’ but be ready. And be teachable—always. You do not know it all. And the more you learn, the more you’ll discover how that’s true.
So while you prepare for the future, stay ready for what I want to do today. Keep your eyes focused on me. Limit your distractions so you can be alert to my activity in your life and those around you. Take time to rest and pursue good health. But continue to look for and listen for me. I am always at work and want you to continue to learn to see and hear me.
What reminders can you set up to help you focus on God throughout the day? Notes in your home or at work or school? Set timers or alarms throughout the day to encourage you to stop and pray? Daily calls or text with an accountability friend? What else?
