1 Samuel 5

1 Samuel 5:1-12

SUMMARYLost opportunity

OVERVIEWWhen the Philistines recognized the power of God, they got rid of the ark. They chose to  get rid of a perceived problem than to submit to God.

BIG IDEAThis is your moment to trust and follow God.

KEY VERSE1 Samuel 5:3 (Philistine god bows before the Lord)
But when the citizens of Ashdod went to see it the next morning, Dagon had fallen with his face to the ground in front of the Ark of the Lord! So they took Dagon and put him in his place again.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I’ve made this day, and it’s an opportunity for you to follow me. Some continue to reject and ignore me. They know they should submit to me, but too often, they choose to trust their way and say “no” to me and my approach for life. Don’t be like them. I’m inviting you today to follow me. Say “yes” now, and then “yes” later today when I offer you a new choice.

You are not responsible for another’s salvation, but you have a chance to be part of their faith story. When they see your life, let your authentic faith inspire them. Do not carry the weight of others’ decisions, but do walk with me. Let me lead you. Focus on me and allow me to draw others to myself. Instead of people seeking luck or good fortune, I want them to pursue me. I will be there for them. I will give them—and you—an opportunity to walk with me. Seek me, and you will find me.

NEXT STEP
Ask God to search your heart and reveal any areas in which you refuse to surrender to God. Surrender those today. Ask for a friend to support you through prayer.
