1 Samuel 24

1 Samuel 24:1-22

SUMMARYMercy

OVERVIEWDavid had the opportunity to kill Saul, but he chose not to as he had too much respect for God’s authority.

BIG IDEATrust God and his way instead of taking matters into your own hands.

KEY VERSE1 Samuel 24:10 (David to Saul)
This very day you can see with your own eyes it isn’t true. For the Lord placed you at my mercy back there in the cave. Some of my men told me to kill you, but I spared you. For I said, “I will never harm the king—he is the Lord’s anointed one.”

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
I know who your enemies are. I remember when and why they want to harm you. I hear their words, and I see their actions. I also know if any of their claims are warranted. Leave the response to me. Let me provide any discipline that is needed. I want you to be filled and controlled by my Spirit so that you can show mercy when required and so that you can be patient in the process.

I want you to trust me. I want you to know that I will protect you and provide for you. But things may not end up as you envision. This is the trust part. I know all, and I am not only helping you at this moment, but I am preparing you for future interactions with these people or others like them. Discipline yourself to pray for your enemies. Pray that they would turn to me and to do the right thing. You will be blessed and find satisfaction when you do the right thing. Follow me.

NEXT STEP
Let God seek vengeance on your enemies or those who frustrate you. Stay faithful to God and pray for them today when tempted to think ill of them. Pray for God’s blessing on their lives and their ability to hear and obey the Lord.
