1 Kings 14

1 Kings 14:1-31

SUMMARYDecay

OVERVIEWBoth Israel and Judah were falling apart under the poor leadership of Kings Jeroboam and Rehoboam.

BIG IDEAGod’s ways are better than your ways.

KEY VERSE1 Kings 14:8–9 (Prophet Ahijah’s message to Jeroboam)
I ripped the kingdom away from the family of David and gave it to you. But you have not been like my servant David, who obeyed my commands and followed me with all his heart and always did whatever I wanted. You have done more evil than all who lived before you. You have made other gods for yourself and have made me furious with your gold calves.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
Trust me, and you will live. Follow me and experience more than you could have imagined on your own. Obey me and let me protect you from yourself and the ways of the world. I am not a good idea or one to consult when all other options have failed. I am God, creator of all. I want to be your only source. Think about me and talk to me when you breathe, chew, and walk. I want to be your everything.

You are talented and wise and have good people in your life. I have provided gifts, intellect, and friends. Surrender them all to me. Let me lead you. There will be times you’ll think your plan is better than mine. You’ll believe your way is more efficient or effective than one where faith is required. Seek me and my wisdom. Bring your ideas and thoughts to me, but be still and listen to and obey me.

NEXT STEP
Do you have a friend or family member who is pushing God aside or ignoring him in subtle or overt ways? Pray for an opportunity to talk to the person about your observations. Do so with gentleness, respect, and humility.
