BIG IDEAStrive to be faithful, not first.

KEY VERSE1 Chronicles 28:4 (David to Israel)
Yet the Lord, the God of Israel, has chosen me from among all my father’s family to be king over Israel forever. For he has chosen the tribe of Judah to rule, and from among the families of Judah he chose my father’s family. And from among my father’s sons the Lord was pleased to make me king over all Israel.

IF GOD WROTE YOU A LETTER
What’s the rush? Why do you and so many work toil and strive to get ahead, to be first, to be known? It is good to have goals and to work hard. And it’s fun to be accomplished and rewarded for your efforts. Work is a blessing, and I created you to do good things. But don’t allow your goals or the carrot your company or culture dangles to control you. How much do you want? And don’t say “just a bit more,” because many have chased that lie for too long.

Similarly, don’t just sit back and do the minimum required. Have a strong work ethic, and do your best. Dream and be prepared to stay up late or get up early. But do it with the full knowledge that you are loved, you are known, and that you have value. I am proud of you. There may be times you get rewarded on earth, but more often than not, you won’t. But your faithful work is never for naught. I see all and will reward you in heaven. Work hard for me and support and encourage others. When you do, you invest in my kingdom. Well done, good and faithful servant!

NEXT STEP
Practice humility today. Look for opportunities to serve or to put others first. Since humility is not something you can brag about, find pleasure in knowing you are following Christ’s example.
